Weapons and Items Guide

Ammo scarcity defines Clawed more than raw damage numbers. Flatrock Games built Prehistoria as a survival horror park where items gate progression and weapons gate survival - you cannot brute-force the Spinosaurus circle with a pistol, and you should not enter the maze without shotgun or assault rifle support. This guide lists every major weapon, key, card, and tool in the current Steam demo, where to find it, and how squads should assign pickups in co-op.

Pair this page with Weapons Tier List for combat effectiveness, Key Locations for landmark callouts, and Demo Walkthrough for narrative order.

Pistol

You typically spawn or loot a pistol with limited ammunition near the monorail pier before entering Prehistoria interior zones. The pistol is not a primary weapon past the first shelter - it exists to teach headshot discipline and emergency defense. Controlled bursts preserve ammo for when the shotgun is not yet available.

Co-op squads should let one player call pistol ammo count aloud so nobody wastes shells on optional targets. See Getting Started for pier routing.

Shotgun

The shotgun sits in the second shelter to the right after passing the main gate with the gate access card. This is the first major power spike: staff center routes, museum detours, and early raptor pairs become manageable with buckshot in chokepoints.

Reserve shotgun shells for guaranteed hits - warning shots attract Utah Raptors without guaranteeing kills. Medical center areas opposite the staff building also hold additional shotgun ammo in community routes; loot them when crossing Main Square.

Assault rifle

The assault rifle spawns on the first floor of the ranger station after maintenance shed objectives. It is the strongest all-around demo firearm and should be assigned to an anchor or overwatch player in co-op. Manage magazines carefully; entering the underwater segment or maze with one partial mag is a common squad mistake.

Access cards and keys

Monorail button - Inside the monorail car at demo start. Required before the transit beat advances.

Gate access card - First shelter. Opens the main interior gate.

Museum key - Staff center on the right side of Main Square.

Fossil - Toilet block on the left after the main gate. Not a weapon but mandatory for museum progression.

South tunnel key - Museum puzzle reward after placing the fossil on the red light.

South maintenance shed key - Back room opposite the Spinosaurus circle.

Ferry key - Inside the late-demo maze near waterfront tunnels.

Green access card - DinoBites or dinosaur bite event near ferry finale.

Pier A station key - DinoBites area after ferry segment per community lists.

Full sequencing lives on Key Locations and Ferry Escape.

Tools and puzzle items

Wrench - Found on a box near its first use point, often in the maintenance wing when a valve or gate requires interaction. Do not discard after one puzzle; later panels may reuse tool checks.

Electrical fuse - Maintenance shed interior after unlocking with the shed key. Insert at the fuse panel near the second Spinosaurus statue shed - see Puzzle Solutions.

Health kits and consumables - Spawn in shelters, staff rooms, and maze side paths. Survival mode increases consumption rate; Classic mode still rewards thorough room clears before boss zones.

Medical center and Main Square loot

Main Square is Prehistoria’s item hub. Beyond the museum key at staff center, community guides reference shotguns and ammunition opposite the medical center near the staff block. Grab both museum key and medical loot before splitting the party - raptors punish solo runners crossing open square geometry.

The fossil in the toilet block saves a dangerous backtrack later. Assign one co-op player to toilet block loot while others watch the square perimeter.

Item priority by demo phase

Phase 1 (pier to second shelter): monorail button, gate card, shotgun

Phase 2 (Main Square to museum): museum key, fossil, south tunnel key

Phase 3 (maintenance loop): shed key, fuse, wrench, assault rifle

Phase 4 (aquatic to ferry): ferry key, green card, Pier A key if required

Speedrunners overlap phases; first-time teams should finish phase three before entering the maze.

Co-op inventory etiquette

Online co-op shares world state but individual inventories matter for downed-state recovery:

  • Call out when you pick up gate card, south tunnel key, or ferry key
  • Assign a key runner who avoids unnecessary combat
  • Revive downed key holders before continuing - dropped keys may require backtracking
  • Do not duplicate fossils or discard green cards thinking they are optional

Survival mode item pressure

Survival mode adds hunger, thirst, weather, and random encounters on top of the same item gates. Consumables become as valuable as ammunition - see Game Modes. Tourism mode lets squads learn item locations without constant combat; useful for screenshot runs but poor for combat practice.

Patch awareness

Flatrock adjusts loot placement and storage box bugs in demo patches - see Demo Patch Notes. After any update, rerun Demo Checklist once to confirm fuse panels, note readability, and shelter storage behave correctly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Where is the shotgun in the Clawed demo?

In the second shelter to the right after you enter through the main gate with the access card from the first shelter.

When should I pick up the assault rifle?

At the ranger station after completing maintenance shed key, fuse, and wrench objectives. Grab it before underwater and maze segments for safest progression.

What items are required for the ferry finale?

Typically the ferry key from the maze plus the green access card from DinoBites or a dinosaur bite event. Some builds also need the Pier A station key.

Where is extra shotgun ammo on Main Square?

Community routes place shotguns and shells opposite the medical center near the staff block. Loot while collecting the museum key to avoid backtracking.

Do weapons differ between Classic and Survival mode?

Pickup locations are the same; Survival mode adds consumable pressure and random encounters that make ammo and health kits more valuable.
